De Hackney para o mundo

No dia 27 de Fevereiro de 1957 em Hackney, Londres, Inglaterra nascia Adrian Frederik Smith. Filho de um pintor e decorador de Homerton. Adrian é o mais novo de três irmãos, tendo ele um irmão mais velho chamado Patrick e uma irmã, Kathleen. Como o caçula da família, Adrian diz que teve uma “criação feliz, típica e meio chata, eu creio” Adrian.(trecho retirado do livro Run to the Hills).
Como todo garoto adorava futebol e chegou a jogar no time principal da escola, mas tudo isso acabou quando ele entrou no mundo da música e nunca mais quis sair. Aos 14 anos ganhou um microfone dos seus pais de aniversário e isso fez querer ser cantor. Ele e Dave faziam covers de algumas bandas, Adrian no vocal e Dave nas guitarras, alias, foi por causa do Dave que Adrian quis tocar guitarra. Dave vendeu uma guitarra antiga que ele tinha uma velha cópia feita no Woodworth ao Adrian e assim ele foi aprendendo a tocar guitarra e desistiu de ser cantor. A partir daí ele foi descobrindo e moldando seu estilo de tocar. Largou os estudos aos 16 anos porque segundo ele não precisaria disso, pois seria uma estrela do rock. É claro que no inicio não foi nada fácil ele trabalhou em alguns empregos, mas não durava muito tempo porque ele se cansava daquilo tudo. Até que montou sua primeira banda e convidou Dave Murray. A banda se chamava Stone Free tempo depois mudaram para Evil Ways. A primeira canção que Adrian compôs foi Countdown que anos mais tarde viria ser chamar 22 Acacia Avenue,mas letra é totalmente diferente de quando foi composta pelo Adrian quando tinha 18 anos.
Evil Ways mudou o nome para Urchin quando assinaram um contrato com uma gravadora, a banda fez 100 shows e lançou dois ep’s. Dave saiu da banda e foi para Iron Maiden. Tempo depois Adrian foi convidado para tocar no Maiden, mas esse recusou a proposta, pois queria continuar com sua banda. Mal sabia ele que Urchin infelizmente não duraria muito tempo e em março de 1980 Urchin acabou. Após o fim da banda Smith ingressou na banda Broadway Brats junto com seu amigo dos tempos de Urchin, Andy Barnett onde não ficou por muito tempo já que a banda acabou pouco tempo depois. Adrian se viu sem rumo até receber mais uma proposta para tocar no Maiden, já que Dennis Stratton havia saído da banda e eles precisavam de mais um guitarrista. Adrian não pensou duas vezes e aceitou o convite. Ele fez o teste e entrou para a banda e a partir daí sua vida mudaria para melhor. Depois de tanto esforço, tantas tentativas ele finalmente conseguiu o que tanto queria. A tal frase dita aos 16 anos de idade “Eu não preciso disso, pois serei um astro do rock” finalmente iria se realizar. O garoto de Hackney iria conhecer o mundo e seria um astro do rock!
Em 1980 aos 23 anos Adrian entra para o Iron Maiden e uma das primeiras coisas que ele fez foi participar de um programa de Tv na Alemanha. Quando voltou a Inglaterra foi para estúdio gravar o segundo álbum da banda e o primeiro como membro do Iron Maiden uma das primeiras músicas que o Adrian trabalhou com Maiden foi ‘Killers’, e “Purgatory’ . Seu primeiro show com o Maiden foi na Brunel Univesity, em Uxbridge, no dia 21 de novembro de 1980, “O lugar dava conta de 2000 pessoas e ele estava lotado. Eu nunca tinha tocado para tanta gente antes. E os fãs do Maiden não eram parecidos com nenhum dos que eu tinha cruzado em minha vida. Eles eram loucos, muitos deles. Loucos e apaixonados, e se você não fosse verdadeiro eles acabavam com você num segundo, sabe? Naquele primeiro show eu me recordo que estava muito nervoso pouco antes de nós irmos tocar. Então pensei em ir lá fora e me misturar um pouco com o povo, dar um ‘oi’, aliviar um pouco. E eu me lembro que um cara chegou até mim e disse: ‘Você é o novo guitarrista?’, eu disse que sim, que era, e ele me falou: ‘É melhor você ser bom!’ Eu pensei: ‘Merda! Com Maiden viveu anos dourados gravou seis álbuns e fez várias composições que são eternizadas! Mas infelizmente chegou ao fim. Seu ultimo show com o Maiden foi  12 dezembro  de 1988 em Hammersmith Odeon. Em Janeiro de 1990 Adrian sai da banda por motivos que até hoje não sabemos se realmente são certos. Ele se dedica a sua carreira solo, na época havia lançado um álbum chamado Silver and Gold do seu projeto A.S.A.P (Adrian Smith and Project), logo depois formou o The Untouchables que mais tarde se chamaria Psycho Motel onde lançaram dois álbuns.O segundo album teve a participação de Dave Murray. Adrian também participou do álbum solo de Michael Kiske(ex-Helloween). Smith também se juntou ao seu ex- companheiro de Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson que também estava em carreira solo. Com Bruce participou de dois álbuns  Accidenth Of Birth e Chemical Wedding. 
Em 1999 a noticia que todo fã do Maiden na época queria ouvir foi realizada! Bruce e Adrian voltam para o Iron Maiden e desde a sua volta a banda gravou 5 álbuns o ultimo lançado em 2015. E 7 dvd’s sendo o ultimo lançado em 2012. 
O garoto de Hackney que sonhava tocar em uma banda, trabalhar em algo que ama e fazer sucesso viu seu sonho começar a ser realizado aos 23 anos de idade e hoje é conhecido mundialmente pelo seu trabalho dentro e fora do Maiden. O garoto que foi influenciado pelo Michael Schenker, Ritchie Blackmore e entre tantos outros guitarristas, hoje é ele quem influencia muitos jovens a seguir o seu caminho. A ter como objetivo a tal frase dita anos atrás “Não preciso disso, serei um astro do rock” 

 

From Hackney to the World

On 27 February 1957 in Hackney, London, England, Adrian Frederik Smith was born, son to a painter and decorator from Homerton. Adrian is the youngest of three siblings, having him an older brother named Patrick and a sister, Kathleen. As the youngest of the family, Adrian says he had a "happy, typical and somewhat boring raising, I believe." (Excerpt from the book Run to the Hills).
As every kid he loved soccer and even played in the main team of the school, but all this ended when he entered the world of music and never wanted to leave. At age of 14 he got a microphone from his parents for his birthday and that made him want to be a singer. He and Dave would cover some bands, Adrian on vocals and Dave on guitars, alias, it was Dave the reason why Adrian wanted to play the guitar. Dave sold an old guitar that he had, an old copy made at Woodworth, to Adrian and so he was learning to play the guitar and gave up being a singer. From there he was discovering and shaping his playing style. He dropped school at the age of 16 because he said he would not need it because he would be a rock star. Of course, it was not easy at first, he worked on some jobs, but it did not last long because he got tired of it all. Until they set up their first band and invited Dave Murray, the band was called Stone Free; later  changed to Evil Ways. The first song Adrian composed was Countdown which years later would come to be called 22 Acacia Avenue, but the lyrics are totally different from when it was composed by Adrian when he was 18 years old.
Evil Ways changed the name to Urchin when they signed a contract with a record label, the band played 100 shows and released two ep ' s. Dave left the band and went to Iron Maiden. Time after Adrian was invited to play in the Maiden, but this declined the proposal because it wanted to continue with your band. Little did he know that Urchin unfortunately wouldn't last long and in March 1980 Urchin is over. After the end of the band Smith joined the band Broadway Brats together with your friend of Urchin, Andy Barnett where he didn't stay long since the band broke up shortly after. Adrian found himself aimlessly until you receive more of a proposal to touch the Maiden, as Dennis Stratton left the band and they needed a guitarist. Adrian didn't think twice and accepted the invitation. He auditioned and joined the band and from there his life would change for the better. After so much effort, so many attempts he finally got what he wanted so much. Such A sentence dictates the age of 16 years “I don't need it, because I will be a rock-star” would finally come to fruition. The kid from Hackney would know the world and be a rock-star!
In 1980 at age of 23 Adrian enters to the Iron Maiden and one of the first things he did was participate in a Tv program in Germany. When he returned to England and went to the studio to record the band's second album and first as a member of the Iron Maiden is one of the first songs that Adrian has worked with Maiden was ‘Killers’, and ' Purgatory’ . His first show with the Band was at Brunel University, in Uxbridge, on the day 21 of November of 1980, “The place gave account of 2000 people and it was packed. I had never played for so many people before. And fans of the Maiden were not similar to none of them that I had crossed in my life. They were crazy, many of them. Crazy and passionate, and if you were not true they ended up with you in a second, you know? At that first show I remember that I was very nervous just before we go play. So I thought I'd go out there and I mix a little with the people, give a ‘hi’, to relieve a little. And I remember that a guy came up to me and said, ‘You're the new guitarist?’, I said yes, that it was, and he said to me, ‘you better be good!’ I thought: ‘Shit! Where I did I get in?” Adrian(excerpt taken from the book Run To The Hills)!
With Maiden he lived the golden years recorded six albums and has made several compositions that are forever! But unfortunately came to an end. His last show with the Band was December 12, 1988 at Hammersmith Odeon. In January 1990 Adrian leaves the band for reasons that even today we do not know if they are actually right. He is dedicated to his solo career, at the time had released an album called Silver and Gold of your project A. S. A. P (Adrian Smith and Project), and soon after formed the The Untouchables which later came to be called Psycho Motel where they released two albums.The second album had the participation of Dave Murray. The boy from Hackney who dreamed of playing in a band, work on something you love, and make success saw his dream begin to be realized at 23 years of age and today is known worldwide for his work inside and outside of the Maiden. The boy who was influenced by Michael Schenker, Ritchie Blackmore, and among so many other guitarists, but today it is he who influences many young people to follow their path. The aim of such phrase said years ago “don't need it, I will be a rock-star”
